Advanced course for professionals who want to add philosophy to their practice (philosophers, psychologists, psychotherapist, teachers, social workers, other counsellors)

Structure:
Module 1: 6 online sessions, two and half hours, one session a week, April-May 2023
Module 2: a week (6 days) summer course in a beautiful place in Serbia, June 2023.
Module 3: 6 one hour individual online supervision sessions on cases out of the practice of the participant
Each single module can be followed according to the specific interest of the participant
Certificate as philosophical counsellor only after completing the full course.
Online sessions:
- Truth in psychotherapy
- Self-disclosure by client and by therapist
- Conflict in psychotherapy
- Transfer, counter-transfer and ‘friendship’ between client and psychotherapist
- The body in psychotherapy
- Negotiation and decision-making as skills in psychotherapy. Do we negotiate with ourselves and how?
Who are you?
Characters in philosophical practice (Personality theories in ancient and modern times, The Big5 (Hofstede etc).., participants take Big5 test and reflect on its outcome in a philosophical way)
Dealing with personalities in philosophical counselling (Freud, personality theories according to the DSM-V, exercise: recognizing and describing personalities, developing a strategy to deal with different personality types)
Introspection in philosophical counselling (Descartes as the founder of modern introspection, Erasmus’ inner dialogue on war)
The other a source of the self (Taylor, exercise on the philosophical biography)
What are you?
Psychotherapy as philosophy (Carl Rogers; A dialogue in philosophical counselling, exercise on the reflexive intervention versus the empathic reflection)
Male and female in philosophical counselling (gender and sexuality, example of female counsellors from ancient and modern times, exercise on the feminine style of counselling)
Existence and function (On existentialism and functioning in society, exercise on cultural difference: Confucius versus Rousseau)
Truth or metaphor (On Plato’s Phaedrus and story of the soul, exercise on being atopos)
Where are you going?
The art of understanding (roots of psychotherapy in philosophy: Socrates and the art of questioning, RE(B)T and the Stoics, Self-reflection and Montaigne, etc…)
The art of living (Meditation, spirituality and mindfulness)
The concept of hierarchy of competence and how one perceives oneself in moving along the various axes of that hierarchy

Each online session will contain:
- Theory (for listening and understanding, 20-30min.)
- Piece of text (for reading, interpreting and discussion, 20-30 min.)
Break (15 minutes)
- Exercise in line with the topic studied (1 hour)
The summer course in Belgrade 2023, for those who complete 6 weeks training, will contain:
- Lectures on philosophy and psychotherapy (invited speakers)
- Groups exercises
- Philosophical walks
- Individual counseling exercises
- Good food and wine, inspiring environment (Monastery in Serbia?), good company
End terms
After following the course participants should be able to:
- Recognize philosophical aspects of their practice (knowledge of the philosophical roots of psychotherapy, appearance of the modern philosophical practice movement and its main style of philosophical counselling, )
- Develop a philosophical aspect of their practice (practice and exercise)
- Reflect on the philosophical aspects of their practice in super- or intervision sessions (attitude)
